Die “Stubete” im Margarethen Kultur Garten wurde jeweils Dienstag abends durchgeführt. In der Stube fanden sich Musiker/lnnen ein um locker und frei zusammen zu improvisieren. Die Bar im Vorraum bot die nötigen Getränke und in der “Raucher- Ecke” wurde viel geraucht, was überaus inspirierend wirkte... MaKuGa hatte neben der musikalischen, eine ebenso wichtige soziale Funktion!
Das Haus und der wunderschöne Garten fielen Anfang 2003 der Basler Bauwut und deren Baggern zum Opfer..
Es ist äusserst fragwürdig ob die neu erstellte Meret Oppenheimer Strasse besser klingt?

The “Vigils” in the Margarethen Kultur Garten was held every Tuesday evening. Musicians gathered in the room to improvise together in a relaxed and free manner. The bar in the anteroom offered the necessary drinks and there was a lot of smoking in the “smoking corner”, which was extremely inspiring... MaKuGa had an equally important social function alongside its musical one!
The house and the beautiful garden fell victim to Basel's building frenzy and its excavators at the beginning of 2003.
It is extremely questionable whether the newly built Meret Oppenheimer Strasse sounds better?

Les « Veillées » dans le jardin culturel de Margarethen avait lieu tous les mardis soir. Les musiciens se sont réunis dans la salle pour improviser ensemble de manière détendue et libre. Le bar dans l'antichambre proposait les boissons nécessaires et on fumait beaucoup dans le « coin fumeur », ce qui était extrêmement inspirant... En plus de la comédie musicale, MaKuGa avait une fonction sociale tout aussi importante !
La maison et le magnifique jardin ont été victimes de la folie de la construction bâloise et de leurs excavateurs début 2003.
Il est extrêmement douteux que la nouvelle Meret Oppenheimer Strasse sonne mieux ?

in 2004, nicole emailed me, in French:
Dänu Extrem is a musician from Bern who has been living and working in Basel for a few years. I met him in a very old house called Margarethens Kultur Garten (Margarethe Culture Garden) because the street where it was located was called Margarethenstrasse. Bands were playing jams there and Dänu who was recording the very last jam session asked me to sing as well as for the LAST TAKES album.. If you look closely on the cover you can see the letters MA KU GA where the black and white change (for the cover design Dänu took two illustrations that I mixed/combined). Since he had a blues without lyrics he gave me the opportunity to sing Huus Frauä Blues* spontaneously in his studio as a first take. He also asked me if I knew Hey Joe and I was also able to sing Hey Joe. This is the story of MAKUGA JAM...

Dänu Extrem est un musicien de Berne qui habite et travaille depuis quelques années à Bâle. Je l’ai connu dans une très vieille maison qui s’appelait Margarethens Kultur Garten (Jardin de culture margarethe) parce que la rue où elle était située s’appelait Margarethenstrasse. Des groupes y jouaient des Jams et Dänu qui enregistrait la toute dernière jam session m’a demandé de chanter ainsi que pour le disque LAST TAKES. Si tu regardes bien sur la jaquette on voit les lettres MA KU GA là où change le noir et le blanc (pour le motif de la jaquette Dänu a pris deux illustrations que j’ai mêlées/combinées). Comme il avait un blues sans lyrics il m’a donné l’occasion de chanter le Huus Frauä Blues* spontanément dans son studio comme première prise. Il m'a aussi demandé si je connaissais Hey Joe et j’ai aussi pu chanté Hey Joe. Ceci est l’histoire du MAKUGA JAM...
